CLACSO Working Group on Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies
In Latin America, and as dictated by transnational organizations such as the IMF, the World Bank, and the OECD, we observe a wave of (counter) educational reforms aimed at homogenizing curricula based on international skills assessment tests; new and subtle forms of privatization and commodification of education, which are advancing the introduction of management logics into educational spaces; worrying discourses that, under the guise of “neuroscience” and “emotional education,” refer to students without contexts, bodies, or cultures; and, of course, the worrying discourse of “school lag” as the main concern of educational systems in the post-pandemic period.
