Fidel Castro in Chile
One hundred years after the birth of Fidel Castro, the International Colloquium “Fidel Castro in ChileThe September 2026 event aims to open a space for critical reflection on one of the most influential political figures of the so-called "short 20th century."
The colloquium is organized by the Diploma in Critical Thinking of the University of Chile and CLACSO, in collaboration with the Fidel Castro Ruz Center of Cuba and El Ciudadano, of Chile.

Fidel Castro's career also maintained a significant relationship with Chile, both through his links with the country's political and social forces and through his influence on discussions about democracy, sovereignty, revolution, and social transformation in the region.

Through various panels and conferences, this colloquium will address the historical, political, and intellectual dimensions of his legacy, promoting a pluralistic and academic exchange on his continental and global impact.
The event will feature the participation of prominent intellectuals, researchers, and international representatives, who will share analyses and perspectives on the enduring relevance of Fidel Castro's thinking and the contemporary challenges facing Latin America and the Global South.
