Professor Hugo Fazio Rigazzi passes away

Professor Hugo Fazio Rigazzi He died at the age of 93 on Friday, March 28. An economist, academic, and former executive vice president of the Central Bank during the Salvador Allende government from 1970 to 1973, his career was marked by critical analysis of his country's economic policies and his membership in the Communist Party.

Exiled in the 80s, Hugo Fazio Rigazzi secretly returned to Chile to collaborate with the resistance against the military regime, settling permanently in 1989. Since then, he dedicated himself to academia at universities such as Arcis, the Academy of Christian Humanism and the University of Chile, where he was professor emeritus and where, for more than 30 years, he taught classes related to Economics in the Sociology program of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

CLACSO joins in the sorrow expressed by the Chilean university community, convinced that his departure leaves an important educational legacy and great research that will guide new generations.
