The Faculty of Information and Communication (FIC) of the University of the Republic (Udelar) was created in 2013, from the combination of the former School of Library Science and Related Sciences and the former Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences.
The FIC offers three undergraduate programs: Bachelor's degrees in Archival Studies, Library Science, and Communication, with approximately 1400 students enrolled. At the graduate level, the FIC offers a Master's degree in Information and Communication, and a Specialization and Master's degree in Documentary Heritage: History and Management. Around 80 students are currently enrolled in these programs. The FIC has approximately 200 faculty members to serve this student population.
At the Faculty of Information and Communication (FIC), a wide range of research lines are developed within the broad field of information and communication. In addition to professional training in library science, archival studies, and communication, we must highlight the significant growth in scientific output that our department produces in these areas. Among the faculty and researchers at our institution, 53% are women and 47% are men. Approximately 25% of these researchers are full-time or have a high level of dedication to the institution.
Finally, we must highlight the Faculty's community outreach activities. The Faculty of Information and Communication (FIC) houses the University Radio of the Republic (Udelar), where professionals, faculty, and students work together on its broadcasts. Furthermore, the FIC establishes numerous agreements with social organizations, government agencies, and international bodies, through which its expertise is applied across various fields of information and communication.
