Studies on gender-based violence against women

The specialization quadro, or International Course, is constituted as a multidisciplinary space of theoretical and practical training, to analyze the complexity of gender violence, its relationship with gender inequalities and other intersections of inequality present in all dimensions of society. Consequently, it constitutes a field of learning about: the conceptual frameworks present in the analysis of gender violence against women, its manifestations, the international framework of global, regional and national human rights; The legislative coerência that must be achieved for an efficient and effective response of the State, as well as will account for the different approaches in public policies of prevention, awareness, reparation and punishment.

Furthermore, it will allow the analysis of two levels of institutionalization of policies and strategies to confront the problems of the States of the region, as well as methodologies of measurement and analysis of public costs and expenditures. The analyzes are situated in a plot that brings together the various intersections of inequalities that are expressed in female diversities, in view of the intersectoral strategies that are being developed or should be developed in the implementation of public policies and their effects in the region.

As part of the conceptual development that this course proposes, women's autonomy will be a central theme and will serve as the development of public policies that enriches the applicability potential of this curricular proposal. Autonomy means, for women, the ability and concrete conditions to freely make decisions that affect their lives. Achieving greater autonomy requires many different quests , including freeing women from exclusive responsibility for reproductive and care tasks, including exercising two reproductive rights; end gender violence and adopt all necessary measures so that women participate in decisions on equal terms. When it comes to physical autonomy, it refers to the ability to decide freely about sexuality, reproduction and the right to live a life without violence.

The course constituted a field of learning on: the conceituais frameworks present in the analysis of gender violence against women, its manifestations, the international framework of global, regional and national human rights; on the legislative coerência that must be achieved for an efficient and effective response of the State, as it will account for the different approaches in public policies of prevention, awareness, reparation and punishment.

Furthermore, it will allow us to analyze the levels of institutionalization of policies and strategies to confront the problem in the States of the region, as well as methodologies for measuring and analyzing public costs and expenditures. The analyzes will be situated in a plot that brings together the various intersections of inequalities that are expressed in the diversity of women, in view of the intersectoral strategies that we see being developed or should be developed in the implementation of public policies and their effects in the region.

Classroom 10: Gender violence in the concepts and interventions of health teams

Summary: The office is a training space intended to guide the preparation of final specialized monographic work. Students will receive accompaniment and guidance in the elaboration of the object of analysis, in their translation into a practical study problem, in the construction of a working plan, in the development of argumentative networks and in the definition of analytical conclusions. These tasks will be carried out individually and collectively by means of exchange between peers and as a professor responsible for the office, through the discussion forum. The objective of the office is to produce the outline of the final work of the specialization. The final monographic work may be in Spanish or Portuguese.

This seminar seeks to promote an analysis of migration and refuge from a gender perspective, with special attention to the specific dimensions of violence and vulnerability that arise in this context. Considering the relevant percentage that women represent migratory groups around the world and in Latin America in particular and, at the same time, the worrying statistics on episodes of gender violence occurring in these contexts. Finally, review the particularities of this group in terms of policies, limitations and initiatives to address this question.

This seminar examines recent concepts related to “violence against women” and the role of feminist movements in their creation and struggles to eradicate it. Throughout the 20th century, Latin American feminist movements have obtained several reforms that make it possible to broaden the rights of women, but to raise awareness regarding recent violence.

Examining the inaugural agenda of feminism, it is strange to find a response to the Penal Law that authorizes, in all our countries, the murder of a spouse, filha ou irmã for reasons of honor or dor. In some countries, these absurd authorizations coincide with the institution of “violent emotions,” often used to establish murder crimes. The enormous conceptual and political renewal carried out by the Second Feminist Wave, since the mid-1960s - with global projection - modified the agenda in such a way that patriarchal violence took center stage.

Embora a CEDAW - Convention against all forms of discrimination against women (1979) - has given a notable contribution to the overcoming of discrimination and obstruction of women's rights, as regional feminist demands to denounce the various manifestations of violence levaram à Convention of Belém do Pará in 1994.

The signatory countries are carrying out legal reforms to adapt to their mandate, but the manifestations of regression or failure still persist in a serious manner. Generally speaking, Latin American countries first present legal norms referring to the so-called “family violence” - it is necessary to say that in the first phase of the feminist revival between the decades 1970-1990, violence practiced in the domestic sphere was the focus of attention. Only in recent years have emerged laws that open the fight to violence against women and in many criminal codes to maximize penalties for those who kill for sexual dissidence and ethnic hatred.

In Latin America, state institutions and civil society organizations face an enormous challenge in terms of gender violence against girls, adolescents and women. It is known that, since there have been enormous advances in recent decades, as expressed in inequalities and gender discrimination that affect the lives of girls and boys, young people and adults, the cultural roots are very difficult to modify as read and declared by governments, and require articulated work between different organizations.

In this sense, educational policies play a fundamental role in the deconstruction of the logic of socialization of identities, in the construction of more egalitarian relationships and in the prevention of violence. Starting from the hypothesis that all education is sexual to the extent that it establishes classifications, daily experiences of sexes and constructs a notion around normality, this seminar aims to interrogate the ways of approaching education in sexuality and the advances in the construction of pedagogical instruments in the prol educational practices that aspire to gender justice and that serve as a basis for the eradication and attention to gender violence.

In this sense, this curricular unit seeks to generate contributions to the interpretation and understanding of two hegemonic and subaltern discourses on the social construction of sexed bodies in all school forms (academic knowledge constituted in a formal curriculum, expectations and endorsements that configure the real curriculum, omissions and silences that compõem the null curriculum, the social construction of teaching and the experiences of what happens in school), as well as for the conception and implementation of specific strategies for incorporation of discipline into the various educational devices. Avança-se, então, in problematization and denaturação of the practices of gender violence that this effect pressupõe.

Furthermore, it aims to provide a panoramic view of the theoretical productions, normative references, protocols and empirical experiences that comprise the field of gender and sexuality studies, those related to gender violence in education and specifically related to sexual education. Nesse quadro, o focus is to reflect on the challenges of transversalization of the sexual education project that broadens the horizon that contributes to problematize educational inequalities in its sexual dimension and makes it possible to implement practices that appeal to the pedagogical imagination in the search for educational institutions to promote fairer relationships.

This seminar seeks to carry out a conceptual analysis of gender construction as an analytical category to explain the social, symbolic, historical and cultural construction of unequal and hierarchical practices and relationships between men and women. In the same way, conceiving and historicizing these categories makes possible a critical analysis and deconstruction of biological determinism, which naturalizes the behaviors of men and women and allows the incorporation or reconhecimento of sexual diversity or generic identities as historical, symbolic and social constructions.

Exceptional criteria: In exceptional cases (health, family or humanitarian questions) in the first two months of the start of the Specialization, someone may request a leave of absence and resume it the following year. In all cases, the reasons justifying the request must be presented in writing. Two months after the start of the course, it will no longer be possible to request this procedure.

It will only be possible to refund the payment value in cases where CLACSO and Flacso Brasil cancel the holding of some seminar.

The classrooms will run from April 2023 to March 2024.

You must approve the International Course, two (2) eletive virtual seminars, the support office to carry out the final work and carry out the final integrative work.

Without exception, to receive the specialization certificate all training spaces must be completed and approved.

To obtain the certificate of completion of the Specialization, it is necessary to carry out a final monographic work. The methodological office will provide and visa accompanies you in the completion of the final work.

You must participate in the classrooms and activities proposed by the teachers and do the final monographic work.

However, the Specialization in the International Course requires credentials from Flacso Brasil and CLACSO. The specialization has a total workload of 360 hours and an international course of 90 hours. The sending of two certificates of completion of both activities and the approved disciplines of the Specialization will be done digitally and is completely free.

The International Specialist diploma and analytical certificate, printed and apostilled, are only issued by the General Secretary of the Flacso, located in Costa Rica. In case, once the Specialization has been satisfactorily concluded, an additional fee must be paid for the international certification issued by the Secretary-General of the Flacso.*
