Political Economy Working Group for Information, Communication and Culture

The Political Economy of Information, Communication and Culture Working Group (EPICC) of CLACSO represents an interdisciplinary field of studies that is developed within the area of Communication independently in different parts of the world. In Latin America, three countries stand out, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, but other important contributions have only been made since the seventies and even before, when, within the so-called theories of cultural dependence, criticism of political economy was suggested as an important foundation for thinking about the organization of two methods of communication. The group is committed to tracing the public selection that accompanies the publications of CLACSO, products that in some way mark the development of the Latin American EPC. The book we present here is one of the fruits of the effort of historical recovery. Valério Brittos, who died early in 2012, is one of two leading authors in Brazilian tradition. This book is a collection of some of the author's two main articles, organized posthumously by his colleague and friend César Bolaño, who carried out the necessary work of selecting and editing the material, and was prefaced by his disciple Anderson Santos, both members of the GT EPICC, which aims, with this, to offer the public a work original, consolidated, which has important impact in the field of Ibero-American and Portuguese-speaking communication, and remains current and important for students of economics, communication and social sciences in general.
