Critical studies in disability
The CLACSO Working Group on Critical Disability Studies comprises researchers, activists, teachers, and militants with and without disabilities, including those who are ill, neurodivergent, and allies from various places.
Latin America, France and Spain that dedicate our epistemic-political practices to the production of knowledge, wisdom and sentipensares linked to the anti-counter-ableist and anti-cordist struggles that position themselves against the oppression, violence and inequality resulting from the relationship between the hegemonic colonial medical, legal, political, social and cultural models.
We are convinced that sick people, people with mental illness, neurodivergent people, and people with disabilities are political and epistemic subjects who are agents of our own transformations.
We aim to make our agencies visible as people with disabilities in order to share and disseminate the contributions we make to society's missions, but above all, to highlight the struggles within social movements in our bodies and territories, demystifying the notion that we are mere recipients and instead positioning ourselves as fighters for our rights. We are aware that in Latin America, the link between poverty and disability is an urgent problem that we must address in conjunction with other categories such as gender, age, race, and migration, thereby promoting its transformation.
Disabled, sick, and crazy people of Latin America, let's unite!
