Created in 1927, the National School of Public Health (ENSAP) is an academic institution responsible for postgraduate training and professional development, the development of research in health policies and systems, the production and evaluation of health technologies, the evaluation of professional performance, and direct advice and services in the field of Public Health, in order to contribute to improving the health and well-being of the Cuban, Latin American, and global population.
The National School of Public Health (ENSAP) is responsible for advising, directing, developing, and monitoring the training and preparation of personnel within the National Health System; the professional development of professionals and professors; the training of specialists; doctoral and master's programs; the evaluation of competence and performance; and the provision of national and international courses, diplomas, and specializations in the field of Public Health. It also develops and implements programs, projects, and academic exchanges with national and international institutions.

Research lines
- Historical development of the theory and practice of Cuban and international public health.
- Determinants of the health status of the Cuban population in vulnerable groups and prevalent entities, with a gender focus.
- Study of the quality of care in the Cuban Health System with emphasis on the analysis of causal processes and their solutions.
- Design and evaluation of innovative proposals, aimed at achieving an efficient and sustainable organization of health services and institutions.
- Development of culturally appropriate models in Primary Health Care, which promote the participation of sectors, the community, the family and the individual in the promotion and protection of their health.
- Study of needs and relevance of training in postgraduate academic figures in public health sciences, medical education and information and communication technologies.
Collaboration
There are close ties of scientific collaboration and academic exchange with a significant number of prestigious national and international institutions, which develop programs and research in the area of Public Health and other related entities.
Links with CLACSO
The institution has members in the CLACSO Working Group on “International Health and Health Sovereignty.” Its members have actively participated in various activities such as:
