School of Care and Public Policy

The initiative brought together officials from different regions of the country as part of the School on Care and Public Policy in Central America, promoted by CLACSO, We Effect, UN Women, and the Government of Guatemala. The activities took place during the week of International Care Day.

The two in-person workshops of the School on Care and Public Policy in Central America were a great success, with 45 officials from different regions of the country participating and expressing high satisfaction with the training experience. The workshops were coordinated by the instructor. Mariana Rulli, who proposed key reflections on the challenges and opportunities of care policies in Latin America.

Representing the organizing committee were Sara Tomé Avilez (We Effect), Eugenia Close (UN Women) and Alejandro Gambina (CLACSO). They also joined in to welcome the initiative Lucrecia Peinado, First Lady of the Government of Guatemala, and Zulma Calderón, secretary of SOSEP.

This in-person session is part of the Higher Diploma in Care and Public Policies in Central America, which takes place between August and December in a virtual format, with the participation of more than 300 officials from the Government of Guatemala.
The delegation also participated in the Strategic Care Roundtable – Guatemala, organized by the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) under the slogan “From care to power: Co-responsible public policies to transform the State”This key action for the consolidation of a comprehensive care system involved the participation of Claudia Valenzuela, Deputy Minister of Policy, Planning and Evaluation of MIDES.

The activities addressed the main conceptual and political axes linked to care in Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting its central role in public agendas and in reducing gender inequalities, as well as the progress and challenges towards building Integrated National Care Systems in the region.
