Energy and sustainable development

El CLACSO Working Group on Energy and Sustainable Development For the period 2026-2028, the Working Group proposes to deepen a critical and contextualized agenda on energy transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean. Building on previous work focused on the relationship between energy, development, socio-environmental impacts, regional integration, and climate change, this period the Working Group seeks to analyze the energy transition not only as a technological process, but also as a political, economic, and social struggle that redefines the region's development possibilities.
Its objective is to produce rigorous knowledge on three interconnected axes: the geopolitics of energy and regional integration; public policies, green industrialization, and productive capacities; and energy justice, with an emphasis on energy poverty, access, democratization, and decentralization. To this end, it will promote comparative research, publications, newsletters, training programs, academic conferences, and dialogues with public agencies, energy companies, social organizations, and regional networks. The central purpose is to contribute to ensuring that the energy transition strengthens autonomy, social inclusion, sustainability, and justice in Latin America and the Caribbean.
