Survey on Coronavirus, Wellbeing and Religiosity

Prepared by Nahayeilli Juárez Huet (CIESAS Peninsular), Rosario Ramírez Morales (CIESAS Occidente), Olga Olivas Hernández (El Colef) and Olga Odgers Ortiz (El Colef), the survey on Coronavirus, well-being and religiosity (COBIRE) arises from the interest in exploring what role religious practices acquire in the framework of the confinement derived from the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico.

In their presentation, they state that “we are interested in understanding the continuities and discontinuities of religious and spiritual practices in this context, as well as their effects on people's lives and their relationship to subjective well-being. Furthermore, we are interested in exploring the means by which these practices are carried out during the stages in which the pandemic has become more visible and critical, and where various forms of congregation have been modified due to government actions, such as the National Healthy Distancing Campaign, which promotes, among other things, the temporary suspension of all non-essential activities in the public, private, and social sectors, as well as voluntary stay-at-home orders to mitigate the spread and transmission of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which causes COVID-19. This document is a first descriptive result of this survey, whose preliminary results in the current situation will be analyzed in greater detail in subsequent post-stratification stages.”
