ELAUD Permanent International Seminar
OBJECTIVE
Following up on the ELAUD virtual events, Meeting “Emancipation and future(s): utopia, a task for academia?” It seeks to consolidate the space for dialogue and debate on emancipations and freedoms in Latin America, established by the project in its previous activities, and to promote a network of articulation and training with the CLACSO Member Centers in the Southern Cone, based in the city of Pelotas, in the far south of Brazil.
This ELAUD Meeting brings together and mobilizes representatives of postgraduate programs and other networks and institutions linked to CLACSO in the southern region of Brazil (States of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to countries of the Southern Cone), and the local academic community in general, to discuss the theme of the event and deepen understanding of the cooperation, exchange and intellectual production developed by CLACSO, keeping in mind its axes and objectives.
WHY “Emancipation”?
The notion and conceptual disputes surrounding the term have been part of our political imagination for centuries. In a certain sense, it has been a cherished historical dream of humankind, a permanent political task for a variety of social groups who almost always attribute different meanings to it. Through the presentation and discussion of specific and pressing social and political issues in particular Latin American countries, the ELAUD SEMINAR proposes a process of ongoing sociopolitical education on the present and future of Latin America by exploring the concepts, practices, and possibilities/impossibilities of “emancipations” on the continent.
