Strengthening the Global South perspective

One of the relevant activities of CLACSO during its visit to China was the meeting with the authorities of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), including academics Zhao Kebin and Zhu Cheng, where both institutions exchanged ideas about the possibilities of joint work aimed at strengthening the perspective of the Global South.

In this regard, Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), highlighted that “CLACSO’s strategic programs in publications, training, and research revolve around three priority themes: poverty and inequality; migration and human mobility; and environmental issues. With this objective, we signed a framework cooperation agreement that will allow us to develop these areas and also work on mobility, facilitating the exchange of professors and students from Latin America and the Caribbean to Shanghai and from Shanghai to Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The State Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) is China's oldest institution for the humanities and social sciences. It comprises 17 institutes and 27 interdisciplinary centers that conduct theoretical research and applied studies in Chinese and world economics, finance, law, literature, history, philosophy, information science, journalism, sociology, youth studies, religion, demography, international relations, national strategy, and regional development, among other specializations.
