Emilce Cuda appointed by Pope Francis to head the Pontifical Commission for Latin America
CLACSO congratulates Emilce Cuda, who was appointed by Pope Francis as Head of Office of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.
Emilce Cuda is the coordinator of the CLACSO Working Group "The Future of Work and Care for Our Common Home ." She holds a doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (UCA) and is a professor and researcher at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the Arturo Jauretche National University (UNAJ). She has also been a visiting professor at various universities in the United States. She is a member of the professional consulting team of CELAM and of the international team of specialists for the International Labour Organization (ILO) program "The Future of Work."
The Pontifical Commission for Latin America was created in 1958 and its primary function is to "advise and assist the particular Churches" in the region, according to its website.
Emilce Cuda was the first Argentine laywoman to receive a pontifical doctorate in moral theology and is known for interpreting the Pope's teachings through the lens of the Theology of the People and Latin American thought. Before being appointed to her new position, Cuda was already a member of the Advisory Team of the Latin American Episcopal Conference's Social School in the area of Church Social Doctrine with a focus on politics, and she was a professor of Foundations of Social Doctrine at its Social School (CEBITEPAL).
