The idea that humanity can improve by learning from the past is an abstraction inherent in a cumulative and linear conception of history. According to Enzo Traverso, in certain historical circumstances the past becomes active, comes alive. It is in these moments that those "lessons from the past," that collective memory, can be activated through collective action.
Historian Enzo Traverso has established himself as one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Marxist thought. On this occasion, Martín Martinelli had the opportunity to speak with him about conceptions of history, the role of intellectuals today, nationalism, and how he believes the current pandemic will be remembered.
