The Rector of UNAM received the Executive Secretary of CLACSO
The Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Dr. Enrique Luis Graue Wiechers, received the Executive Secretary of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, Karina Batthyány, in Mexico City on Monday, September 27, as part of the preparations for the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences, “Networks of Inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean – Knowledge, Struggles and Transformations,” which will take place at UNAM from June 7 to 10, 2022. Also participating in the meeting were Guadalupe Valencia, Coordinator of Humanities at UNAM, and Raúl Arcenio Aguilar Tamayo, Secretary of Community Outreach at UNAM.
The occasion was opportune to review the central themes of the great world meeting of social sciences and humanities in the middle of next year, which is already generating great anticipation due to the topics that will be debated and the academics who have already confirmed their participation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Karina Batthyány stated: “We have just finished a meeting with the Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where we were able to make significant progress regarding the academic and political importance of the 9th CLACSO Conference, which will take place here from June 7 to 10, 2022. This meeting allowed us, first of all, to thank the Rector for all the support he is providing us to hold the Conference here in Mexico City, at UNAM. We reaffirmed the importance for CLACSO of UNAM as the venue, given what this institution represents for the Social Sciences and Humanities at the Latin American and Caribbean level, and also globally. In this meeting, where the Rector decisively reaffirmed his support for holding this event, we were able to assess the political and academic importance of this Conference, and also take substantive steps in terms of its concrete organization. Eight months and a few days before we meet here in Mexico City for our 9th We want to share this good news about the conference, which, by the way, will be inaugurated by the rector of UNAM.
In Mexico, host of the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences, CLACSO has 101 member centers and associated networks (95 member centers and 6 associated networks, of which 14 are from UNAM and 37 throughout Mexico City), in addition to a long history of activities and agreements with local institutions.
The days prior – June 5 and 6, 2022 – will see the Extraordinary Assembly of CLACSO to consider the statutes and the Ordinary Assembly, which is held every three years and is where the perspectives at the regional and global level are discussed and the main guidelines for the work of the following years are set.
