The Stink of America

This volume, co-published with the National University of Tres de Febrero of Argentina (UNTREF), presents a compilation of texts to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the first edition of the book Deep America, by Rodolfo Kusch (1922-1979). This seminal work encapsulated the challenge of developing situated thought, defining the unique perspective of thinking from the Americas.

The critical and reflective starting point for this publication is “The Stench of America,” an article published in 1961 that was not included in Kusch’s Complete Works. The aim of this project is to revisit some of the categories of his thought with the hope of repositioning such incisive notions as “stench” in all their potential when investigating the cultural thought of our continent.
