Care is a concept under construction

Eleonor Faur, a teacher and specialist in gender issues at the Interdisciplinary School of Higher Social Studies-IDAES of the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) in Argentina, spoke with the Executive Director of CLACSO, Karina Batthyány, delving into the issues of care over time in the region, the progress, challenges and the path that remains to be traveled towards consolidated care regimes and public policies in favor of equality.

The meeting took place on August 9 at the Volta Building headquarters of UNSAM, organized by the Master's Program in Feminist Studies and the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies and Feminisms.

In this context, Karina Batthyány stated that “care is a concept under construction,” since its application manages to “articulate, both in the field of knowledge and in the field of public policy, agendas and debates that were previously scattered.” She also emphasized the importance of making women's perspectives visible in the social sciences and other spheres of work: “Let's try to incorporate this concern into everything, ensuring that gender and feminism are present in all dimensions. Transformations begin in everyday life, and that includes what happens in our homes, in our daily routines, but also in the workplace. Let's create a culture of gender equality there.”

La Interdisciplinary School of Advanced Social Studies It is a postgraduate institute that, throughout its history, has become a center of excellence for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research training.
