Popular education and critical pedagogies
As researchers, who assume the commitment of our historical time, from the CLACSO Working Group on Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies we consider that Latin America is today facing vast challenges and crossroads.
In the field of education, we are witnessing a renewed attack on the public sector from the neoliberal logic (commodification, privatization, subordination to the demands of accumulation), as well as the reduction of the meaning of education to the acquisition of skills and competencies functional to the capitalist logic.
For the current three-year period (2023-2025), three problematic issues are raised that will act as axes of reflection in the Working Group:
- The relationship with the State and the power of the alternative in the experiences of Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- The disputes over hegemony, the processes of shaping counter-hegemonic political subjectivities; and the role of Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies in this framework.
- Popular Education and Critical Pedagogies in the defense of life and rights as common goods.
