Economics for life, towards a New International Economic Order

From May 2nd to 4th, Bogotá hosted the meeting «Economics for Life: Towards a New International Economic Order", an international forum that included the participation of Pablo Vommaro, Executive Director of CLACSO, on the panel «Technology, innovation and education«.

This forum was organized by the Colombian government, through the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Finance, in conjunction with Progressive International and the Vida Center for Thought. Its central purpose was to debate and propose alternatives to the current global economic system, seeking what is known as the "decolonization of the economic debate" from the perspective of the Global South.

Thematic Areas of the Meeting

During the three days at the Ágora Bogotá Convention Center, the debate is structured around five strategic pillars:

-Climate and natural resources: Just energy transition and protection of biodiversity.

-Industry, work and trade: Reindustrialization and labor rights in the new global context.

-Debt and finance: Proposals to reform the international financial architecture and the management of external debt.

-Technology, innovation and education: The role of knowledge in sovereign development.

-Global governance: New forms of political articulation between nations.

The forum brought together academics, ministers and intellectual leaders from various countries, in a context that is framed within the roadmap of the National Development Plan "Colombia, World Power of Life", which seeks to consolidate the South American country as a bridge of dialogue between the economic thoughts of different continents, especially after previous milestones such as COP16 and other solidarity economy forums.
