Political Ecologies from the South/Abya Yala

El CLACSO Working Group "Political Ecologies of the South / Abya Yala" It is configured as a transdisciplinary space that integrates academic knowledge and situated knowledge in dialogue with social, Indigenous, and peasant movements. Its approach stems from a critique of the fragmentation of knowledge and reductionist interpretations of the environmental crisis, proposing to understand socio-environmental conflicts as complex processes shaped by power relations, territorial disputes, and struggles for the defense of life and common goods.
From a decolonial perspective, the group analyzes the persistence of the coloniality of power in Latin America, demonstrating how extractive dynamics and forms of capitalist accumulation reproduce historical inequalities and affect communities and territories differently. At the same time, it promotes the appreciation of diverse knowledge and the construction of alternative rationalities, recognizing the link between biocultural diversity and community practices.
In the context of a global polycrisis, the Working Group fosters dialogue among disciplines and actors to understand the multidimensionality of current problems and build socio-ecological alternatives. In this way, it is consolidating itself as a field of Latin American critical thought with an international reach, aimed at strengthening research networks, supporting territorial struggles, and promoting transformations toward more just and sustainable ways of inhabiting the world.
