La National University of Tres de Febrero, Together with the UOCRA Foundation[Name of organization] prepared a report on job quality and the socio-productive structure. This initial analysis was presented to create a space for study and debate to evaluate different labor market indicators.
Contrary to what has been proclaimed in the mainstream media and by numerous government spokespeople, the possible solutions to Argentina's problems do not lie solely in reducing the fiscal deficit to zero. To assert this is to view economic and social processes as static, as a state of affairs, and not as a process. From this simplistic perspective, simply eliminating the fiscal deficit would lead to virtuous growth, job recovery, and the creation of new jobs; at the same time, competitiveness would increase.
The economy would grow, and exports of goods and services would increase. The much-touted “flood of productive investment” would also materialize. In reality, this over-the-top rhetoric is heavily influenced by commitments made to the IMF: fiscal discipline is the promise intended to prevent capital flight by linking it to direct investment; although, regarding the latter, it should be noted that since we began publishing our Dossier, investments have been, to put it mildly, extremely scarce.
Our primary objective is to contribute to a discussion about these problems, both in understanding their diagnosis and in considering policies and actions that can be implemented. Therefore, in this issue, we will move from the general question to the analysis of one specific issue.
of the points that we believe are strategic within the overall picture of difficulties: the problem of young people in relation to employment and education.
For this reason, the central part of the Dossier will be dedicated to reviewing a series of information focused within the group of young people in urban areas, in order to observe how many of the problems mentioned above are specified.
