Documentary “The Divide and Freedom”
CLACSO.CINE premieres on Thursday, October 23, at 4:00 p.m. Argentina time (UTC-3), “The Divide and Freedom”, an animated short film about neoliberalism and human rights in Argentina, with the director in attendance Antonio Balseiro and from the filmmaker Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky.
“The Divide and Freedom” is the result of a collective and interdisciplinary effort, which seeks to promote debate on the mechanisms of neoliberalism in Argentina, and to show with evidence how and who this system harms and who it benefits.
The film draws three conclusions. First, that neoliberal policies are class-biased, exacerbate extreme inequalities, and deteriorate the material living conditions of large segments of the population, affecting a wide range of human rights for the majority. Second, that freedom is impossible without access to goods and services to meet basic needs. And third, that the political divide is causing us to bark at the wrong tree, because while we fight amongst ourselves, the true castes of millionaires and powerful figures remain intact.
The production team included Pedro Saborido, Mercedes D'Alessandro, Ayar Blasco, Agustina Muñoz, Antonio Balseiro, Felicitas Soldi, Nahuel Zeta, Rosario Triana and Juan Pablo Bohoslavsy, among others.
Through this film production, the team's mission has been to challenge consciences for political action through science, art, and human rights.
The film is inspired by the book “What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine. Neoliberalism and human rights in Argentina“(Ed. UNLP, 2025). This collaborative work offers a theoretical framework and empirical evidence to understand the class bias of the neoliberal economic policies implemented by the government of Javier Milei. It explains the transmission channels through which the regressive nature of income distribution and the deterioration of the material living conditions of the majority of the population are deepened, reconstructing how a wide range of human rights are sacrificed on the altar of neoliberalism in Argentina.”
