Advanced Diploma in Political Training

Latin America and the Caribbean occupy a prominent place on the global and regional stage, a territory marked by intense tensions and disputes between forces striving to strengthen democratic processes through participation and the expansion of rights, and regressive tendencies that combine far-right ideologies with neoliberal policies. It is these latter forces that operate according to a pattern that must be interpreted in order to understand and combat it. At the same time, it is vital to develop regional agendas that allow us to learn from historical experiences and provide tools for consolidating progressive and transformative political options.

Given this complex political, economic, and social framework, the importance of building spaces where critical thinkers, political and social activists can meet to discuss and educate themselves in order to build common agendas for progressive fronts in our region becomes evident.

The Higher Diploma in Political Training is the result of a joint work between CLACSO, Casa Patria Grande (Frente de Todos, Argentina), the training space of Colombia Humana (Colombia), the Lula Institute (Brazil), the Podemos training area (Spain), the Morena Political Training Institute (Mexico), the Eloy Alfaro Institute for Democracy (Ecuador and Mexico), the Apruebo Dignidad Constituent Observatory (Chile) and the Liber Seregni Institute (Uruguay).

Through collective work, the convening institutions developed a training proposal that addresses some of the fundamental issues for understanding our time and our region: the sources of inequality and the scandalous concentration of wealth; the climate emergency; the capture of the State by elites; the role of the media; the proliferation of hate speech; and legal warfare as strategies for destabilizing democracies and persecuting political leaders.

Likewise, this training space aims to generate dialogues that contribute to strengthening the progressive field by placing on the agenda the place of regional integration projects, new forms of organization and political participation, new sovereignties (climate, health, food) and the construction of socio-environmental agendas whose horizons are coordinated by the search for greater equality and social justice.

The course is organized into six thematic modules (with weekly classes) taught by distinguished professors and includes seven interviews with leading political figures from the parties participating in this diploma program. A team of coordinators and tutors will support the participants throughout their training.
