Difficulties of the energy transition
This book, co-published with the Institute of Economic Research of the UNAM and coordinated by Oscar Ugarteche Galarza and David Bonilla, offers an in-depth analysis of how the energy transition can contribute to the decarbonization of the economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and decrease urban pollution.
The work explores the supply and demand of energy in the transport and electricity sectors, considering key dimensions such as geopolitics, geoeconomics, social justice in access to energy and public policies.
It is also argued that the demand for fossil fuels is closely linked to the evolution of their supply in the transportation sector, which complicates the transition to more sustainable sources. The report also highlights China's role as a global leader in the energy mix shift, while North America—including Mexico—is consolidating its position as the main market for alternative energy technologies from that country.
With a rigorous and multidimensional approach, this work constitutes a key tool for academics, energy sector professionals and decision-makers interested in understanding the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition at the regional and global level.
