OPINION – Transforming gender norms and stereotypes: masculinities, care and violence prevention in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin American Council of Social Sciences and UN Women have promoted several joint initiatives in recent years aimed at strengthening knowledge production on gender equality and the right to care. Both institutions launched this research call focused on the transformation of gender norms and stereotypes and their relationship to masculinities, the social organization of care, and the prevention of violence against women.
The Call promotes research aimed at problematizing patriarchal masculinity and exploring co-responsible and caring alternatives, through two thematic axes: on the one hand, the study of policies and initiatives that promote transformations towards a care society; and, on the other hand, the analysis of the relationships between norms of masculinity and gender-based violence, both in its prevention and in its approach from a care perspective.
They were opened 299 forms and were finally received 73 complete applications, which after technical and formal review, 69 They were in a position to be qualitatively evaluated by the International Committee to consider the quality, relevance and coherence of the proposals in accordance with the Call.
The evaluation process was carried out by an International Committee composed of 14 Experts from different countries: Jenny Torres (Dominican Republic), Alba Carosio (Venezuela), Lucas Pablo Serra (Argentina), Graciela Di Marco (Argentina), Delmy Cruz Hernández (Colombia), Fabiana Espíndola (Uruguay), Ivonne Farah (Bolivia), Juliana Díaz (Argentina), Rebeca Yanis Orobio (Panama), Patricia Botero (Colombia), Lola Cubells (Spain), Cristina Scheibe Wolff (Brazil), Laura Pautassi (Argentina), Susana Rostagnol (Uruguay).
