International Pride Day

 International Pride Day

Every year, June 28th is celebrated as International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day to advocate for the rights of this community and fight against discrimination and violence against it.

On this day in 1969, the Stonewall riots took place, a series of demonstrations in response to a violent police raid on the Stonewall Inn bar in New York, which marked a milestone in the collective liberation movement.

In many countries in Latin America and around the world, sexual and gender diversity continues to be persecuted and criminalized. Respect for dissent upholds the right of individuals to live freely according to their sexual orientation and gender identity and must be accompanied by the expansion of rights for the LGBTQ+ community in all areas.

This International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day, CLACSO proposes two interviews and two readings to reflect on the topic.

Interview to Aurora Iglesias Lara, from the National LGBTI Platform for Peace, Colombia.

Julieta Osorio from the Trans Collective Delindas Hous, from Colombia.
