Contemporary Right-Wing Movements, Dictatorships and Democracies
The last decade has seen the advance of the right wing in the region, which also coincided with the victory of Donald Trump in the United States and the growth of the far right in Europe.
This regional and global situation seems to indicate that Latin America is crossing a new historical threshold, the nature of which is novel in some aspects. But what is new about the new right that has managed to defeat, displace, or sideline the governments of the pink tide of the early 21st century?
El CLACSO Working Group on Latin American Right-Wing Groups: Dictatorships and Democracies It brings together and aims to foster dialogue among researchers from a dozen countries with diverse disciplinary backgrounds and from different generations, all interested in the study of right-wing organizations from the second half of the 20th century to the present. This group aspires to contribute to two fields of analysis:
- the history of South American and Caribbean dictatorships
- the one dedicated to the study of the right wing in the period between the Cold War and the present day
Over the course of three years, the group will promote the development of online forums, participation in academic events, the organization of specialized workshops, and the production of texts that reflect the progress of original research. Furthermore, we propose to actively develop materials for use in both formal and informal educational settings. Discussion and teaching materials will be created in various formats (books, journals, podcasts, audiovisual materials) designed for use in diverse spaces and institutions.
