Department and Curricular Area of Political Science of the Faculty of Law, Political Science and Social Sciences of Bogotá – Colombia

The Department and Curriculum Area of Political Science emerged between 2002 and 2009, respectively, eight years after the creation of the Political Science program, which was the first Political Science program established at a public university and the second in the entire country. Since its inception, the Department and Curriculum Area have made significant contributions to defining the discipline's object of study, as well as to the university's academic approach to its development, thus contributing to the advancement of the discipline at the national and regional levels.
It currently offers six academic programs: an undergraduate degree in Political Science, a specialization in Public Policy Analysis, a specialization in Justice, Victims, and Peacebuilding (offered jointly with the Department of Law), a master's degree in Public Policy, a master's degree in Latin American Political Studies, and a doctorate in Political Studies and International Relations (offered jointly with the Institute of Political Studies and International Relations, IEPRI). In 2016, the Political Science program received accreditation from the National Accreditation Council (CNA) for eight years.
It is made up of a faculty of 19 full-time teachers with extensive academic and research experience; and ten research groups led by full-time teachers, most of them classified in COLCIENCIAS, two of them in category A1.
We have the Political Science journal, which has been published since 2006 and is aimed at catalyzing the political science debate in the Colombian sphere, with a global perspective, free from disciplinary confinement and geared towards the development of the public function of contributing to the construction of a more informed, more critical and more active citizenry.
