Social Work is one of the founding degree programs of the Faculty of Social Sciences (Udelar), established in 1992, along with Sociology and Political Science. Since the Faculty of Social Sciences' inception, Social Work has maintained comprehensive processes (teaching, research, outreach), which are part of our discipline's historical strategy.
Our central lines of action are oriented towards: the academic training of Social Workers within the framework of a degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences; the production of knowledge in different areas of research (gender, work, old age, disability, collective subjects, social protection, social policies, families, mental health, juvenile delinquency, social work intervention, childhoods); the extension and implementation of activities in the community as a way of linking directly with society; the articulated work with the professional collective represented in the Association of Social Workers of Uruguay (ADASU); the link with academic spaces in the region, strengthened by being part of the Latin American Association of Teaching and Research in Social Work (ALAEITS).
Within the framework of our lines of action, we understood it necessary to link with CLACSO, as an Associate Center, in order to continue expanding our academic networks, knowledge production, and exchange of plural knowledge in a Latin American context that must find us increasingly united in our struggles against inequality.
