June 7-10, 2022 at UNAM in Mexico
After being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the dates of June 7-10, 2022 have been set to organize the 9th Latin American and Caribbean Conference of Social Sciences in the facilities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in the nation's capital where CLACSO has 101 member centers and associated networks, in addition to a long history of activities and agreements with local institutions.
The announcement was made by CLACSO Executive Secretary Karina Batthyány in her column in InfoCLACSO on Wednesday, May 5.
Previously, on the days 5 and 6 of June of 2022Two CLACSO Assemblies will take place: the Assembly extraordinary to consider the statutes and Assembly Ordinary which is done every three years and is where the perspectives at the regional and global level are discussed and where the main guidelines for the work of the following years are set.
The #CLACSO2022 edition will feature open and special panels with international guests, as well as keynote lectures and dialogues with leading figures from the political, academic, and social fields, in addition to training workshops, panels, and roundtables. It is worth noting that this event will also include an international book fair for social sciences and humanities and an international film series, among other special events.
The Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Social Sciences has been, since its first edition in 2003, the largest academic and political event in the Social Sciences and Humanities worldwide. In its eight previous editions, which coincided with the General Assemblies of the Council, diverse themes have been addressed in response to the political and social circumstances of the region. This year, the central theme of the Conference will be the complex web of inequalities.
With the organization of this initiative, CLACSO seeks to generate a space for debate and reflection within the framework of the particular historical moment we are experiencing on a global scale as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, recreating an environment conducive to the evaluation and deployment of critical thinking in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The representativeness that the CLACSO network has achieved throughout its 54 years of activity, as well as its broad prestige in training, research and dissemination in Social Sciences and Humanities, promise to make the Conference a powerful space for dialogue and exchange between academia, public policies and social movements, making this event one of the most important and visible academic activities worldwide planned for 2022.
