Statements from the CLACSO Working Group on Lex Mercatoria, Corporate Power and Human Rights regarding the attacks on Venezuela

El The CLACSO Working Group on Lex Mercatoria, Corporate Power and Human Rights strongly rejects the imperialist attacks by the United States against Venezuela. US military interventions in the region have been recurrent throughout history, resulting in serious violations of human rights, democracy, and sovereignty in Latin America. The sovereignty of Venezuela—as well as that of all countries in Latin America and the Caribbean—must be fully respected.

We express our deep concern for the Venezuelan civilian population and call for the protection of women, girls, boys and young people against the violation of their social and human rights, as well as the preservation of life and dignified living conditions.

The Trump administration is clearly seeking to open the Venezuelan market, particularly the oil sector, to US and foreign transnational corporations. The underlying motivation for the military attacks is also economic, as it aims to dismantle state and sovereign control over one of the world's largest oil reserves, located in Venezuela.

We reiterate our deep condemnation of these attacks and reaffirm our commitment to defending the sovereignty and human rights of the Venezuelan people.

Out with the imperialist forces of Latin America!
