Declaration in support of and solidarity with the Cuban people in the face of the recent provocative and interventionist action against the Cuban Revolution
For more than 60 years, Cuba has been subjected to economic warfare through a system of unilateral and extraterritorial coercive sanctions unparalleled in modern history. This economic blockade has had devastating impacts on the Cuban population in general and on achieving the development goals with equity and social justice envisioned by the Cuban revolutionary process from its inception. In addition to the effects of the economic blockade, which reached its peak during the Trump administration and has been consistently maintained by the current administration, the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has also been exacerbated.
The permanent hostility and hypocrisy of the temporary governments of the United States persists, supported by a permanent reason of State that makes it clear that in reality they do not pursue a reformed Revolution on the Island, as they argue with their invariable deceptive language, nor do they have a humanitarian concern for the well-being of the Cuban people, but rather they aspire to a kneeling and defeated Revolution and persist in achieving the longed-for “regime change”.
In this context, the Cuban Revolution is once again the target of provocative actions—promoted by elements of the United States government and by counterrevolutionary sectors of the Cuban diaspora, who traditionally operate as functional pawns in the old subversive strategy, now renewed with the platforms offered by social media and new information technologies—aimed at inciting social unrest by manipulating the island's difficult economic situation. The aim is to demonstrate that Cuba is a "failed state," deepening the attempt to divide the Cuban people, break their unity, and foster their alienation from the revolutionary leadership.
El CLACSO Working Group on Studies of the United States It calls upon academic and cultural institutions, activists and social movements, intellectuals and students committed to the struggle being waged from Latin American and global critical thought within which their work is situated, to remain vigilant, oppose, denounce and unmask by all means at their disposal the new imperialist escalation, which persists in its purpose of overthrowing the Cuban process, ignoring its legitimacy, cynically and perversely spreading lies and slander, which seek to deny and distort the massive popular will, which under the guidance of the historical leadership of the Revolution, continued by the current leadership of the Cuban State, firmly persists in its endeavor to defend its independence, its sovereignty and its socialist project of emancipation, embracing Martí's ideals: "with all and for the good of all."
Our Working Group stands in solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution, and calls for denouncing the true root of the recent subversive action, supporting the legitimate defense made by Cuban patriots, resolutely confronting the frustrated provocative attempts, promoted essentially by mercenaries, paid by imperialism, who carry out the instructions of their masters, with the participation of antisocial elements, managing to attract people who suffer from shortages, without this constituting a significant political opposition in qualitative or quantitative terms.
