Declaration from various latitudes of planet Earth in support of the “Native Flowers Rebellion” and demanding a response to its historical and current demands
We, the undersigned, workers in the social sciences, humanities, arts, and communication from different parts of the world, stand with and support the self-organized women from various Indigenous nations of Argentina, hailing from territories in conflict, in their peaceful occupation of the Ministry of the Interior in Buenos Aires, which began on October 9th. We demand that the Argentine State, the government, and its officials open all the necessary channels, as requested by these women, to provide swift and urgent responses to their historical and current demands, because, as they affirm in their statement entitled “The Rebellion of the Native Flowers”:
The current “capitalist, racist, and patriarchal system […] is endangering life on the planet” […] “Governments and corporations are carrying out terricide” […] “They are murdering our territories” […] destroying entire communities that are the guardians of a way of understanding the art of inhabiting the land, which is necessary to establish a new civilizational framework.” They are destroying, they add, “all the forces that regulate life on Earth.”
Based on a survey conducted by the 2nd Indigenous Women's Parliament, they state: “Eight out of ten Indigenous women suffer rape, abuse, and physical violence. Seven out of ten suffer this at the hands of police and state security forces. Seven out of eight women cannot access justice. Five out of eight women raped and murdered are elderly, in most cases spiritual leaders.” They conclude: “We Indigenous women are the bodies that suffer these atrocities the most” [since] “historically, it falls to us to sustain and protect our own lives and those of our families.”
At the same time, they denounce the militarization of their territories: “We routinely suffer arbitrary arrests and raids; disappearances and torture; evictions of our communities that violate our rights and the laws that protect us.” This is further evidence of what they call “the imposition of a system of death, which has distorted humanity.”
The self-organized indigenous women start from the denunciation of terricide, femicide and state terrorism to demand the recognition of a plurinational state and "good living" as a right, while affirming that they have proposals to contribute to the fight against climate change, to recover the practices of societies reciprocal with nature that sustain life as the main value and thus restore equity and reciprocity among the peoples and with women.
In these times of death, horror, and war, demands, analyses, and proposals like these must be heard by the Argentine state/government and by national and international civil society. These are rebellious and dissenting voices that reach us from the ends of the earth for the entire planet.
