About the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDJ)

In 2020, a group of scholars specializing in antisemitism studies and related fields, such as Jewish studies, Holocaust studies, and studies of Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East, convened under the auspices of the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem to address the major challenges in identifying and combating antisemitism. Over a year of deliberations, they reflected on the use of existing tools, including the definition adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), and its implications for academic freedom and freedom of expression.

The organizers and signatories of the DJA represent a wide range of academic disciplines and regional perspectives, and hold differing views on issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, they agree on the need for a more precise interpretive tool that helps clarify the conditions under which antisemitism occurs, as well as those under which there is no conclusive evidence of antisemitism.
