Cusco Declaration

The Eco-Social and Intercultural Pact of the South was born in an adverse context for the peoples of Our America. The climate crisis and environmental pollution are increasingly impacting territories, affecting harvests, drying up water sources, and destroying ecosystems. There is a rise in impoverishment and the establishment of pacts of impunity and corruption within governments. Meanwhile, state violence and extractive industries persist, while new authoritarian regimes emerge and the presence of transnational organized crime networks increases throughout the region.

We are witnessing the progressive collapse of our ecosystems, democratic regimes, and eventually our ways of life. Political elites and systems offer no real solutions; on the contrary, they deepen this civilizational crisis. In response, the Eco-social and Intercultural Pact of the South raises the urgent need for a just and popular eco-social and intercultural transition to overcome this imminent collapse, one that can generate a more equitable and democratic society and economy in harmony with nature and all non-human beings.

This year, the Southern Eco-Social and Intercultural Pact met in Cusco, Peru, in solidarity with the struggles of its peoples, especially those of the southern Andes, against the corrupt and impunity-ridden pacts of the government of Dina Boluarte and her allies who currently control the country. The aim was to learn from their perspectives and proposals for building a more just Latin America.
