From sustainability to development?
This book, a new volume in the CLACSO-CALAS collection, explores the purpose and intended beneficiaries of the “development” and “sustainability” models. It examines production matrices and their associated socio-environmental effects, the actors and institutional frameworks involved, socio-economic dynamics, and alternative approaches. Its chapters aim to provide tools for understanding the scope of extractive industries and their alternatives. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the works contribute both theoretical and methodological tools for studying these production dynamics, as well as concrete scenarios in which the socio-ecological crisis emerges and possible alternatives for its transformation. This compilation proposes a collective approach to socio-environmental problems, hoping to contribute to building less unequal and more habitable worlds.
