The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the centrality of care in human life and in our relationship with our environment. Care work, in its various forms—both within and outside the market, at home, in the community, or in institutions—is essential for the functioning of society and the sustainability of life. However, the COVID-19 crisis also exposed the limitations of how care is organized and provided, exacerbating what had already been termed the care crisis, and particularly inequalities based on gender, class, race, and territory—among others—in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean.
