Crisis of hegemony and the rise of China

This work addresses the main characteristics and dimensions of what is termed here the historical-spatial transition of the world system, which has been exacerbated by the current Covid-19 pandemic, outlining a new global geopolitical moment. It provides a general overview of each of the main trends in this transition, with particular emphasis on the rise of China alongside the decline of the United States: both processes as indicators of the current crisis of US (or, more comprehensively, Anglo-American) hegemony and, consequently, of the world order. It also examines the political-strategic contradictions and hybrid warfare in different scenarios, including the global economic crisis and the emerging new techno-economic paradigm, all expressions of the epochal or systemic crisis we are witnessing. Towards the end, some effects of this entire process described in the peripheries of the world - also called the Global South - are addressed, focusing in particular on the prospects that open up for Our America, in the face of the dilemma between deepening the peripheral, dependent and "underdeveloped" condition of our countries or recovering the commitment to autonomy, popular sovereignty and social justice.
