We hope this book will represent a valuable contribution of critical thought to a more comprehensive understanding of our turbulent historical moment. These are times of uncertainty, of a lack of certainty about the course of social processes, marked by the crisis of civilization imposed upon us by capitalism and by growing social and class conflicts.
