The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is the world's largest professional association for individuals and institutions dedicated to the study of Latin America. With more than 13.000 members, over 60% of whom reside outside the United States, LASA is the only association that brings together Latin American experts from all disciplines and diverse occupational fields worldwide.

LASA's mission is to foster intellectual debate, research, and teaching about Latin America, the Caribbean, and its people throughout the Americas, promote the interests of its diverse members, and encourage civic engagement through networking and public debate.

Each year, Latin American specialists gather at the LASA International Congress. With over 900 sessions, including plenary sessions and informal meetings, the Congress is the world's leading forum for expert discussion on Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Association promotes the Latin Americanist community in many other ways. It provides access to the Latin American Research Review, the leading U.S.-based journal of Latin American studies; publishes the LASA Forum, a quarterly newsletter; alerts members to career opportunities; recognizes scholarly achievements; and represents the interests and viewpoints of Latin Americanists before the U.S. government and, on occasion, governments elsewhere.
