CLACSO agreements in the field of humanities and arts

On March 20, the Latin American Council of Social Sciences endorsed a series of agreements with important Member Centers of the Argentine Republic: the “Floreal Gorini” Cultural Center of Cooperation (CCC), the Institute for Mobilizing Cooperative Funds (IMFC), the University Institute of Cooperation (IUCOOP), and the Argentine Institute for Economic Development (IADE).

“It opens up possibilities for a variety of actions, including dissemination, publications, and the exchange of journals and academic articles, as well as a particular facet here, which is the strong work in the field of Humanities and Arts. And we are particularly interested in making progress in the field of Arts, because CLACSO has done some things in this area, but it is a field that needs strengthening,” summarized Karina Batthyány, Executive Secretary of CLACSO.

Juan Carlos Junio, Director of the Floreal Gorini Cultural Center of Cooperation, considered that "these are times where there are great ideological debates, great debates of ideas: Latin America in particular is experiencing a moment of upheaval and political upheavals bring with them controversies, debates," estimating that with these agreements "we are going to strengthen ourselves... and make together a more positive, more valuable contribution."

Nicolás Arata, Director of Training and Editorial Production at CLACSO, added that “this agreement provides a good framework for the cooperation that exists between the three Centers that are grouped here at the CCC and CLACSO, which are involved in different tasks: research, training, and the organization of lecture series. A set of activities in which both the CCC, through its Centers, and CLACSO naturally converge.”

For Marisa Duarte, president of IADE, “basically what the agreement does is to enhance much more, generate synergies, complement, and of course make the efforts we have to make to maintain academic production, publications, meetings, and academic events much lighter.”

Finally, the Vice-Rector of IUCOOP, Pablo Imen, added that the agreement “is very important because it expresses a political will to strengthen CLACSO and its Centers… we have a series of cycles in mind and also to move forward with joint editions and everything that allows us to wage the cultural battle so essential in this historical time.”
