Constitutional Convention of Chile
From the CLACSO Education and Interculturality group, we congratulate our colleague and member of the Working Group, Dr. Elisa Loncon, who was elected to the Constitutional Convention of Chile, occupying one of the 17 seats reserved for the indigenous peoples of that country.
We celebrate her election because of her commitment to the linguistic and educational rights of Indigenous populations, especially the Mapuche people. Her participation represents progress in the challenge of building multiethnic and multilingual states throughout Latin America.
We hope that their performance will allow for changes in favor of the native populations of Chile, the socially marginalized sectors, and those who have driven this process of social transformations.
We are watching with interest the process unfolding in Chile and hope that these changes will resonate in every place where the rights of marginalized groups are being violated throughout the region.
