Contributions to public policies for a resilient recovery
On Thursday, June 17, EUROsociAL+ and CLACSO presented the report “Initiatives of civil society organizations in Latin America in the face of the pandemic: contributions to public policies for a resilient recovery. Presentation of the report prepared by EUROsociAL+ and CLACSO.”
This report, prepared by CLACSO, presents recommendations to strengthen the link between CSOs, their actions and public policies, based on the scope of intervention and the results framework of the EUROsociAL+ program.

Target audience: This report is intended for representatives of civil society organizations participating in the mapping of initiatives, representatives of public institutions in Latin America, European Union Delegations, Latin American Foreign Ministries and National Cooperation Agencies; researchers, think tanks and academics interested in public policies and organized civil society in Latin America.
For the preparation of the report, 296 initiatives implemented by 711 CSOs were identified, present in one or more countries of the 19 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The COVID-19 virus arrived in Latin America and the Caribbean in mid-February 2020, and its rapid evolution into a global pandemic led to a restructuring of how countries and cities functioned. From the outset, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) activated various initiatives to position themselves at the forefront of supporting citizens, deploying an intense agenda that has been key to addressing the most urgent effects of the pandemic, mitigating the social and economic consequences of the crisis, and, in different ways across countries, monitoring, supporting, and strengthening public action.
The initiatives undertaken by civil society organizations (CSOs) during this period represent a vast body of knowledge, responsiveness, organizational capacity, and connection with citizens, demonstrating the continued relevance of this type of organized social action in Latin American countries. This social capital can also contribute to public policy and social reform in the region's states, and to developing a resilient recovery process.
