Against the threatening and warmongering narrative and the US military interventionism.

Against the threatening and warmongering narrative and the US military interventionism.

In recent years, the United States government has significantly increased sanctions against Cuba and the illegal economic, financial, and commercial blockade that for more than 65 years has sought to obstruct the progress of socialist construction. With new forms of sanctions with extraterritorial reach and interference in Cuba's internal affairs, an energy blockade has been imposed since January of this year, negatively impacting the economy, but above all, the daily lives of our people, who are now being profoundly affected.

The United States is intensifying its policy to achieve domination over Cuba through the formula expressed in the April 1960 memorandum by then-Assistant Secretary of State Lester Mallory, who cynically proposed disrupting supplies to Cuba to “cause hunger, destabilization, and the overthrow of the government.” This is coupled with an increase in threatening and warmongering rhetoric, military intervention, and the creation of uncertainty and fear among our population.

The country that has always threatened us wants people to believe that they are the ones being threatened, and in the name of U.S. national security, they claim the right to attack not only Cuba, but any other country.

Given this scenario, the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC), made up of hundreds of women and men of science and thought from all over the country linked to universities, research centers, scientific societies and companies for the production of high value added resources, including medicines and vaccines, reaffirms its commitment to the government and people of Cuba, to scientific development, technology and innovation in favor of peace and international collaboration.

At the same time, the ACC states that:

  • We reject the label of “failed state” that the Secretary of State of the empire applies to Cuba with the cynical use of the consequences of the inhumane blockades imposed by themselves.
  • We also reject the search for absurd pretexts for aggression against Cuba, to present themselves as our saviors, and we repudiate the unfounded accusations against Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism and a threat to the U.S.
  • At the same time, we denounce any form of US aggression against Cuba, along with the interventionist policies employed by the current US government, which seeks to establish itself as the master of our continent. We oppose arbitrary and illegal impositions that violate international law.
  • We also denounce the accusation issued by the United States Department of Justice against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution.

The Cuban Academy of Sciences reaffirms its commitment to independence, national sovereignty, and Cuba's legitimate right to continue building socialism, a process that poses no threat to any country. Therefore, our defense against any external aggression is also legitimate. We reiterate that Cuba does not attack, but it will defend itself if attacked. This commitment, which we fully support, stands with our people.

We reiterate our support for the policy of dialogue adopted by the leadership of our country as a rejection of war, and we pledge to continue working for peace and solidarity among peoples and nations.

We appreciate the international solidarity and support for Cuba, especially that received from institutions and colleagues from various parts of the world who know the values of the Cuban people, their institutions and leaders, and who have information about the selfless help that Cuba has always provided to those in need.

As part of the Cuban people, we know we are not alone and we reaffirm the legitimate reasons why Cuba defends itself!
