Against the “Palantir Pact”
The Progressive International is issuing a global call to action against Palantir Technologies , a US company specializing in the development of large-scale data analysis software, artificial intelligence, and surveillance tools. Founded in 2003 by Peter Thiel, Alex Karp, Joe Lonsdale, Stephen Cohen, and Nathan Gettings, the company was initially funded by In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital arm.
The “Progressive International” initiative, which has the support of several organizations including CLACSO , functions as a global campaign and call to action directed at public officials with the aim of expelling the Palantir company from state contracts, promoting ethical public procurement and stopping the use of mass surveillance tools or artificial intelligence for war and social control purposes.
FIRMS
It says that the call:
“Palantir Technologies wants to control our governments, monitor our lives, and take away our rights—and they are acting fast. Palantir tested its violent technologies against the Palestinians—and now it sells them as 'combat-proven' to governments around the world. From US military battlefield intelligence to NHS patient records in the UK, police technologies in Germany, and border control in Ecuador, Palantir is rapidly escalating a global assault on the foundations of our democracies.”
That is why we are mobilizing around the Commitment against Palantir: a commitment from public officials at all levels—council members and mayors, members of parliament and ministers—to expel Palantir from the State, adopt ethical procurement and investment policies, and protect our fundamental rights.”
