Building new narratives

Nicolás Arata, Director of Training and Editorial Production at CLACSO, participated in the Conversation “Neoliberal Authoritarianism or Democratizing Democracy?: The Dispute over the Future in Latin America” in Mexico in early February. Interviewed for CLACSO TV, he assessed that “This meeting had a key point which is the openness and honest reflection with a critical spirit on where we stand.”

Nicolás Arata elaborated that “The triumph of neoliberalism occurred primarily in the realm of subjectivities” and spoke of the “We have an urgent need to build new narratives to confront this battle, which is political but fundamentally cultural. In this cultural arena, where our societies and we as ordinary citizens operate, we lack narratives to understand this new phase of the battle for hegemony in our region.”
