Open knowledge as a common good
El CLACSO Working Group Open Knowledge as a Common Good It is a research network made up of 28 researchers affiliated with 13 institutions in 9 countries:
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico and Uruguay.
The Working Group addresses the topic of Open Knowledge in the current polarized context: on the one hand, the Sustainable Development Goals as an ethical and political reference point for humanity's actions, where academia has a fundamental role in defending scientific knowledge as a common good; and on the other hand, the tensions faced by Open Access on a global scale, such as the prevailing academic evaluation scheme based on inadequate and irresponsible metrics, such as the Impact Factor and the inequality in the scientific communication infrastructure.
In this sense, the Working Group aims to preserve and strengthen a non-profit scientific communication system, through the articulation of regional initiatives and the construction of joint research projects.
The Working Group builds upon the work carried out between 2016 and 2019, the main outcome of which was the creation of AmeliCA. Therefore, its central objective is to strengthen and enhance this technological and knowledge infrastructure on a global scale.
