The studies compiled in this book do not seek to engage with critical voices regarding the relevance of imperialism in international relations. The aim of this work is to avoid abstract discussion, as well as the overly ideologized emphasis on unresolved issues. Nor does it attempt to demonstrate and denounce the multiple effects of imperialist policies on the political history of our region. Instead, it seeks to present certain points of reference inscribed within a pattern of historical regularity, a pattern whose trajectory could be described as an anti-imperialist tradition. Significant shifts in the global balance of power, such as the beginning and end of the East-West conflict and others like the U.S. invasions, despite their costly consequences, have ultimately only served to further solidify the foundations of this tradition, whose projection and influence on the current Latin American stage are of enormous importance.
