Condemns the United States attack against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

The Working Group “Geopolitics, Regional Integration and World System” of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) categorically and strongly condemns the attack perpetrated by the United States against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the early hours of today, January 3, 2026.
This constitutes an aggression against Latin America in the logic of the Monroe Doctrine 2.0, with the Trump Corollary, and is an act of aggression that violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the fundamental principles of sovereignty, self-determination, and non-intervention. It also flagrantly violates the declaration of Latin America as a “Zone of Peace” made unanimously by CELAC in 2014, thus reviving the Monroe Doctrine in the 21st century.
The aggression against Venezuela is part of an escalation that began with the intervention in the Panama Canal and which, if left unchecked, could continue in other countries of the region. For years, various US agencies have been publishing reports—replicated by the media and social networks—that reveal not only a declared obsession with Venezuela but also with Latin America as a source of strategic natural resources and as an arena for 'competition' among 'Great Powers'.
Venezuela, a country possessing natural resources of enormous strategic value to the global economy, has for years been the testing ground for a “full-spectrum war”—economic, financial, diplomatic, and media-driven—that has failed in its objectives and generated unacceptable humanitarian costs. The current military escalation represents an extremely dangerous qualitative leap, with unpredictable consequences for the entire region. Understanding the problem by limiting oneself to media appearances is to lose perspective, and confronting it solely through statements is to cede ground.
CLACSO reaffirms its strong condemnation of the military aggression against Venezuela, which jeopardizes the security of all of Latin America. We call upon governments, international organizations, social movements, the academic community, and the peoples of the world to reject this aggression, demand an immediate end to all military action, and defend the right of the Venezuelan people to decide their own future, free from threats and external interference.
